Made of Air
Made of Air manufacture a material that has the potential to replace existing CO2-producing materials like MDF boards or thermoplastics in the construction industry, which makes up around 40% of the global manufactured goods. As an additive to other materials, Made of Air products scale far bigger so if only 10% were employed in all manufactured goods, it is possible to sequester ca. 3.6Gt Carbon from the atmosphere annually. This reduction meets the IPCC 2°C target set in the Paris Accord that needs a reduction of 2-10Gt CO2 per year.

Made of Air produce a carbon-negative building product from atmospheric CO2. It has a product that turns harmful carbon dioxide into a useful and harmless building material!
This genius material is the brainchild of Allison Dring and Daniel Schwaag, who founded "Elegant Embellishments" in London in 2006. They moved headquarters to Berlin in 2009 which gave them a space to development their practice as inventors of climatic building elements and stewards of the environment.
Made of Air is making materials out of existing CO2 in the atmosphere. The term “de-cycling” refers to the carbon taken from the air, used as a product, and then put back in the earth. It is the direct opposite of the process of burning fossil carbons to go into the atmosphere.
The overabundance of CO2 in the atmosphere is a result of the natural carbon cycle being incomplete. Burning subterraneous carbon creates fossil fuels that emit carbon in the form of CO2 into the atmosphere but the absorption of plants absorbing CO2 is a natural "carbon sink" but is insufficient to cope with the huge amounts of man-made CO2 emissions.
Made of Air's material is 80% pure carbon made from CO2 in the atmosphere. By baking CO2 in controlled ovens, it converts to a solid carbon char that is stable for millennia. This is in effect a better solution than using plants and planting trees to reduce CO2 in the atmosphere since such organic material dies and decays eventually and release CO2 once more. Made of Air's products will lock in CO2 for millennia.
Users of Made of Air’s products include BMW, Audi and H&M.
Relevance
Made of Air have a mission to reverse Climate Change by turning biomaterials into super-engineered biocarbon to produce: 1) fillers to replace mineral fillers for a range of applications; and 2) Carbon-negative surfaces for home construction.
